Hebrews 10:23 New International Version (NIV)
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
The author of Hebrews is writing to a community of Jesus followers who are under massive persecution. They are being beaten, tortured, imprisoned and killed because of their faith in Jesus Christ and this is causing believers to walk away from the church. The author wants to address these people and encourage them to hold on to the promises of God through the hardships they are facing. He expects these believers to hold on “unswervingly”, but how? How could the author except these christians to hold on? How could he expect for them to endure the pain and the trails? Doesn’t he see what they are going through? The author expects these believers, and us to hold onto God’s promises by focusing on “he who promised” because “he who promised is faithful”. The author is so convinced about God and his faithfulness that he offers it as the solution to get through trials! God is that good! He is that faithful! HE is so faithful that we can hold on to hope and not shake. The focus of our faith was never on feeling of hope, but it was always on the One who gives us hope. It’s important to note that the promise was never about the promise, It was always about the promiser. All we need to do is put the focus on our relationship with Him. I don’t know what promise God has given you, but know that if He promised it, He will bring it to pass because he is faithful. If we get a promise from God, we can be certain because of WHO he is! It will still be hard, it will still be uncomfortable but God can give us strength and comfort, so that we can wait for the blessing he will bring in and through our lives. Spend time with him, worship him, and put him first. In relationship with Him is where revival is found.
Prayer: Father, we thank you for your faithfulness. We thank you that you are always present and active in every aspect of our lives. We ask that you would show yourself present in our trials. Would you give us the strength to hold on to your promises and to hold on to you. We want to see your faithfulness in our lives so that we can give you all of the glory and all of the honor. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
